Hello!!
The reading I chose was “The Magically Green School Bus”.
This is the story of a 16-year-old boy who invented “greenshields” to reduce the carbon footprint of school buses.
I am now going to talk about why I chose this story.
First of all, I was very attracted by the title alone!!
Because I did not see any connection between the words “magically” and “school bus”.
I had no idea what the story was about and was very interested in reading it.
And when I read it, to my surprise, a boy almost our age was contributing to the planet with an efficient idea!
So it wasn’t really magic, but a magical idea!
The protagonist, Jonny, considers school buses to be extraordinary, not ordinary, and wondered what if he built a shield to modify school buses to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve fuel efficiency? He thought, “What if I could build a shield to modify the school bus to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve fuel efficiency?”.
So, at the young age of only 13, he succeeded in developing the Green Shield by forming a team and winning a national chemistry competition!!
He said, “You can be a changemaker even if you are only 13 years old. Don’t be afraid to share ideas with adults, just go for it!”.
I was strongly impressed by these words. It made me think deeply about improving the environment through chemistry.
